To think about saar (what is good or beneficial; the Real) and asaar (what is bad or harmful; the relative) is known as vivek. If one has vivek then vairaag (dispassion for worldly life or the relative) can develop. And if one has vairaag, then renunciation will last, otherwise, even renunciation will not last. Without the basement of vairaag, renunciation cannot last.
