Freedom from Fear and Suspicion

Every living being has fear and keeps looking for how to overcome fear. From one-sensed to five-sensed, inside every living being, there are four types of instincts, food, sex, sleep and fear. From the time a living being comes into the womb, right until death, these instincts are ingrained in him, and through them, the actions keep happening. How does the instinct of fear work? For example, a small puppy is sitting in the middle of the road, and on hearing a car’s horn, the puppy immediately gets up and starts walking. Due to the instinct of fear, it is afraid that “what if I die?” If there was no instinct of fear, even the puppy would not get off the road and a traffic issue would get created on the road.

Initially, the living being has a natural fear due to the instinct of fear. But as it comes into the human life-form, contrary fears usher in from which it desires to be fearless. Early in the morning, listening to cases of thefts, robberies, etc. on TV or newspaper, one experiences fear of himself getting robbed or ‘what if there is a riot?’—such fear arises. Even when there is a slight power outage and hence no lights, out of fear, one begins to panic. When in a plane or car, one fears meeting with an accident. Seeing a lizard or a cockroach in the house, one jumps up in fear. Many, when wake up in the middle of the night, the fear of ghosts frightens them. Also, if some wrong deed has happened, the fear of ‘my reputation shall be ruined!’ remains. After exams, one fears result. So, where is fear not there? The fear of past harasses many, while many remain afraid of the future. Thus, the state of a human being has become like that of a startled horse! Life is flowing in a dependent state. In addition, the contrary intellect of the current era (kaliyug) creates fear out of nowhere, multiplies one fear into many and shows it hundred times more; and hence, it becomes difficult to live a peaceful life! Thus, it becomes essential to know how to overcome fear.

Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan says of what use is such a human state? Humans should be fearless. Nothing in this world can shake us, that’s how it ought to be. Which is that fearless place? One’s own real self! Upon realizing ‘I am the Soul’, as one ascends the stages of pure Soul’s experience, fear keeps diminishing, and even in a fearful world then, one can prevail as a fearless Soul. As much one considers oneself perishable, that much fear arises. When one realizes that “I am permanent”, from that moment, one begins to become fearless.

Here, we get a detailed understanding of the various types of fear, the reasons behind those and practical solutions to overcome fear.
