Generally, everyone has fear of police and court. When police knock our door, we get a strange feeling in our stomach. When there comes a notice (summons) from the lawyer to appear before the court, tremors of fear begin to arise within. If police come to our house, and upon taking our name, asks, “is Chandubhai home?”, we begin to sweat. Later we come to know that the police officer has come to give a wedding invitation!
Here, Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan illustrates one such example of police phobia.
Now, you’ve come home banging the car with someone and the policeman comes asking, “Is Chandubhai there? Chandubhai’s there?” So what happens then?
Questioner: Get afraid.
Dadashri: Get very afraid, right? Or just a little bit?
Questioner: If I know someone in the police department, then would not get afraid.
Dadashri: How can you have acquaintance everywhere? You might have acquaintance here, but might not know anyone elsewhere.
Hey, if by mistake, the police ends up going to the wrong Chandubhai instead of the intended one, and says to that Chandubhai that we have the summons, he is already scared and hope he doesn’t have a heartfail.
Now tell, how can this be acceptable? The problem has not yet arrived, it hasn’t manifested yet, even before that… just by hearing about it!
Right now, if a policeman simply asks someone, ‘Is Chandulal there?’, he’s shivering, even before the policeman arrives. Why should there be such a lot of weakness? The world is very deep. We’ve seen all of this in many past lives, but one doesn’t remember! Therefore, the world is worth knowing.
Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan says, the reason why there arises fear of police or courts is, our dislike, hatred, contempt and a lack of good feeling towards it. If this contempt and dislike does not remain, we can be free from the fear of police. While providing a practical solution for the same, he says that if we say, “The policemen are wrong, they are harassing us, I don’t like them”, the fear shall usher in. Instead, if we say, “The policemen are good, they are protecting us, they are beneficial, I like them”, then the fear will vanish.
Similarly, people dislike going to the court. When you feel afraid of court, if you go there saying, “What’s wrong with the court? It is a temple of justice. It is a very good place”, then there will be no fear. Actually, when does fear vanish completely? When the inner passions of anger, pride, deceit and greed are completely eradicated. However, until such a state is achieved, practical solutions like these open up a viable way to remain free from fear.
Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan provides us practical solutions giving examples of his own life experiences.
Dadashri: Earlier, even I didn’t like going to the court. So I myself started searching, that for what reason do I not like this? This is said to be a temple of justice. Everyone goes there, even small children like going there. Then, I realized that I have contempt towards it, therefore fear had got into me.
Thereafter for no reason, I would go towards the court, just peak in, would stroll there without any work. How nice it is! Look at these lawyers, they are so nice. On saying so, in the lawyers’ room that was full of people, upon meeting some lawyer of acquaintance, he would say, ‘Oh, welcome, welcome, you’ve come after such a long time! Have you come as somebody’s witness?’ I said, ‘No, no, nothing of the sort. I have come just to see.’ Doing so, the fear gets released.
We keep fearing uselessly, for no reason! Now there, in the temple of justice, we have to just go as a witness, in that, so much of fear? It has nothing to do with you; yet? But no, the fear has taken hold, so what can be done? And while entering into the witness box, it is pounding within!
I had done this discovery myself. Although I did not find any Guru, but myself got tangled and myself unraveled, myself got tangled and myself unraveled; this is how I then myself did the exploration. Therefore, I am able to provide these examples. The examples provided so far are all of my own experience and they are helpful.
Thus, behind the fear of court and fear of police are our hatred and contempt towards them. When the contempt is gone, one will be able to be free from these fears.
